Wildlife?
Wildlife = "Living things and especially mammals, birds, and fishes living in a natural, undomesticated state".
The slogan of the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York is 'connecting people to wild nature'. What a shame it is, then, that to protect wildlife on the planet, it is necessary to transport exotic animals to NY and imprison them for the entertainment of a public that is often just looking for a trophy photo —new adventurers seeking the thrill of urban safari armed with iPhones and iPads.
At the Bronx Zoo stands a quote of the environmentalist Baba Dioum: "In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, we will understand only what we are taught". In our virtual era, is it really necessary to watch imprisoned animals in order to protect their fellows that still survive in their natural habitat? How is it possible that the knowledge of the 'other' —even of our animal 'other'— cannot be reached without inflicting suffering on him, interfering in his life?
